Q: Why is ebase spec'ed for an older version of FileMaker and doesn't work with the current version of FileMaker 9?
A: The ebase TAC Technical Advisory Committee decided, with much input, to produce an updated, debugged, and fully featured implemented version that would work with existing nonprofits' investment in ebase and FileMaker Pro they already owned.
Our intent, and the work has started, is to port the majority of the ebasePro 2.20 feature set to a version that does work with currently shipping versions of FileMaker Pro. The changes from FileMaker 5.5/6 to FileMaker 7/8/9 are fairly substantial and require rewriting and rethinking much of the way any FileMaker database is designed. It is not a simple port.
As we are an all volunteer nonprofit and rely on the extremely generous donation of time and talent of dedicated and passionate FileMaker volunteers, we are reliant on their availability for this undertaking. If you are a knowledgeable and available FileMaker developer who can contribute to these efforts - we'd love to hear from you!
