Q: Can ebasePro be used by multiple people on a network?
Yes, ebasePro has a multi-user configuration that enables multiple users to access ebase data at the same time on their own computers.
To use ebase in multi-user mode, we recommend setting up a client-server system with a dedicated server running Filemaker Pro Server to serve ebase files.
There are separate ebasePro multi-user versions for Windows and Mac. They include instructions and a client installer and a server installer. The files can be accessed from the Download page.
The client-server system requires licenses of FileMaker products: a FileMaker Pro 5.x or 6.x license on each client computer and FileMaker Server 5.5 on the server computer.
While you can set up ebase to operate across a peer-to-peer network of 4-5 computers without FileMaker Server, the advantages of data integrity and network performance far outweigh the extra cost of FileMaker Server for organizations that value the data in ebase.
We STRONGLY recommend that you download ebase (single user installer) and get acquainted with it before downloading the client/server modules.
