Printing Complete Donor History to File

Our database contains 1543 donors. We would love to have access to the CDH, but if we were to print it, it would be well over 2000 pages, and extremely difficult to search.
I have printed it to file, but I can't figure out which type of file it is. I can't open it with the usual MS applications, or in any Adobe apps.
Instead of printing to file, is there a way for me to export this data into a .csv file?
Thanks!
[edited on 12Mar08] We are looking for the following information for each donor: name, which appeals they responded to, and the gift amount from each appeal. If we can pull this information out in another way, I would be very excited to hear how. [/edit]

Export to .cvs is very doable
First you need to decide what are your criteria - is it really everyone? or do you need a date range of donations?
Once you have your criteria, next you need to do a one-step find. (A multi-step find won't export the entirety of the log entry data - just the last step.)
You can use the Report - Log Entries - Basic Log entry export. You have lots of fields to choose from including Log Title, as well as some Contact data and Log Code data like the buckets (Class, etc.). It exports automatically contact data as well as log data (amount, solicitation, code title, etc.)
You will get one row per log entry. So a person who gave 5 times should have five rows.
Hope this helps.
